Mark Rylance heads to Marylebone Theatre in Tartuffe (Remixed), with over 2,250 tickets under £30

Mark Rylance stars in the title role of Tartuffe (Remixed), a new version of Molière’s comedy reimagined through a contemporary Nigerian–Jamaican family, running at the Marylebone Theatre from 4 September to 24 October. The story follows the family as they gather for a wedding, old wounds resurface, and a charismatic man of God called Tartuffe threatens to unpick the lot of them.

The production is written and directed by Darren Raymond, founder of Intermission Youth, the charity which has spent nearly two decades giving young people facing socio-economic barriers a way into theatre through Shakespeare and mentoring. Rylance has been a trustee since 2009. Several cast members, including Sara Mokonen, Christopher Mbaki and Morenike Onajobi, are graduates of the youth programme now working professionally through Intermission Ensemble, its sister company.

In what is described as a major commitment to affordability, ensuring access for lower-income families and new theatre audiences, over 2,250 tickets across the run are priced at £30 or under, the equivalent of eight full houses. Every performance also offers a £20 lottery, and the production has partnered with schools and community groups to release heavily subsidised £15 tickets for ten selected performances. It is a structural commitment running through the whole season, not a token gesture buried in the small print.

Tickets go on general sale from 1 July, with priority booking already open.
